Wizz Air Launches from Coventry Airport
Coventry Airport is flying high today after Wizz Air, the largest low cost - low fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe, announced it will be commencing flights from Coventry in 2007.
The airline will be operating a 3 times weekly (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) service to Katowice, the capital of South Poland from 28 July 2007 using an 180 seater Airbus A320 aircraft.
Alan Robinson, Chief Executive Officer of Coventry Airport said “We are absolutely delighted that Wizz Air has chosen Coventry as its Midlands base. As the only real low-cost airport in the UK, we can offer the quality service and fast turn-around times that are key to a low-fares airline. Coventry and the West Midlands region has strong historical links with Poland and a service to Katowice will be great news for the Polish community, businesses and leisure travellers”
John Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air added: “Our entry onto the Midlands market is in line with our goal to become the airline of choice for the UK travellers to Central and Eastern Europe, where we already offer 11 exciting destinations, including 5 in Poland, The new Coventry-Katowice route becomes our 21st link between Poland and the UK. We believe that our new passengers from Midland will enjoy our low fares and excellent services as much as our Polish travellers, who are already familiar with Wizz Air as the largest low cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe.”
