Coventry Airport Chairman Hands Over to Successor

West Midlands International Airport Ltd (WMIAL), the operators of Coventry Airport, have today confirmed the planned handover of its Chairman, Bill Savage to his successor, William Charnock.

Bill Savage was previously the Managing Director of the Airport before he stepped up to being Chairman in January when WMIAL came under the new ownership of CAFCO-C.

The Chief Executive Officer of WMIAL, Mr Alan Robinson, said “We knew when we were buying the company that Bill wished to return to his home and family having been working away from them for over 2 years whilst here at Coventry. We managed to persuade him to stay until the Planning Inquiry for the permanent terminal is completed and as the Inquiry is due to complete shortly, we are happy to release Bill as planned. He and his team have done a marvellous job in bringing the Airport to where it is today and the Board and I look forward to carrying on the work to develop and grow Coventry Airport, to serve all our customers”.

Bill Savage commented, “I have enjoyed all my time at Coventry but when I first landed here it was for a six week consultancy task. That was 30 months ago and a lot of progress has been made at the airport, so I feel it is the right time for me to hand over. I would like to pay tribute to the Airport staff, tenants and users in helping us achieve so much over the last 30 months. In William Charnock, the airport is securing the services of an extremely well respected airport professional, who is highly regarded by the industry. He has vast amounts of relevant experience having been the Managing Director of London City Airport during its early development years and as an Airport Consultant involved with several airport developments in Europe and North America. I know William well and have every confidence that in handing over my office to him, he will lead the airport to bigger and better things. I wish him, the staff and the Airport every success and best wishes”.

William Charnock added, “I am delighted to be taking over as Chairman at such an exciting time in the history of Coventry Airport. I look forward to working with the Board and staff to bring our development proposals for a new terminal to fruition as soon as possible”.
