Establishment of Controlled Airspace

ESTABLISHMENT OF CONTROLLED AIRSPACE IN THE VICINITY OF COVENTRY AIRPORT
Over the last 18 months, Coventry Airport has successfully become a base for scheduled passenger services operated by Thomsonfly.com. Coventry Airport believes the time is right to enhance the already high standards of airspace management which exist at the Airport. One common sense proposal which will assist in that objective is the introduction of controlled airspace ("CAS"). CAS will help us to maintain and, where possible, enhance the expeditious and safe handling of flights at Coventry Airport.
It should be emphasised from the outset that the provision of CAS will not create an exclusion zone to non-passenger carrying aircraft, but will instead create a known traffic environment with associated benefits for all airspace users, not just scheduled passenger services. It is envisaged that CAS will lead to environmental benefits, with the known traffic environment allowing more direct tracks for inbound and outbound traffic.
Proposed revisions to noise preferential routes ("NPRs") also form part of Coventry Airport's airspace proposals and these will also assist us in reducing or containing any environmental impacts.
As part of the process for the establishment of CAS and the revised NPRs, Coventry Airport is about to embark upon an informal consultation process with all interested or affected parties.
To assist us in this process, established groups and organisations are invited to register as consultees by mail, telephone or email to the following:
Manager Air Traffic Services
Phoenix House
Coventry Airport South
Siskin Parkway West
Coventry

Coventry Airport's web-site will be regularly updated so as to keep members of the public informed in relation to progress of the consultation process.
