Two Public Local Inquiries for Airport Development
8th December 2004
The Planning Inspectorate has advised that the Public Local Inquiry, set to start on 1st February 2005, will deal only with the Interim Passenger Facility (IPF). It will not deal with the separate appeal in respect of a permanent terminal building.
Based on this decision, the appeal for the permanent terminal building will be heard at a separate Public Local Inquiry at a later date, most likely in 2005.
Commenting on the decision by the Planning Inspectorate, the Airport's Managing Director, Bill Savage said: 'Since TUI took over the operation of the Airport, we have been determined to fully comply with the planning regime. We equally consider that the two issues regarding the Interim and the Permanent Passenger Facilities are so very similar in all aspects that they could be dealt with together by the same Public Local Inquiry.'
'The decision to hold two Public Local Inquiries is in response to pressure from Airport objectors. Unfortunately, it will inevitably have significant public purse and additional time and cost implications for all the parties concerned. We remain fully committed to continue the operation of passenger flights at Coventry Airport and do so within the requirements of the planning system.'
