Coventry Airport Prepares For Summer Take Off
7th July 2004
With news that UK airports are threatening industrial action over the summer months Coventry Airport is anticipating a great summer season.
The handling at Coventry Airport is undertaken by private company Coventry Airport Handling so is not affected by industrial action.
Managing Director of Coventry Airport, Bill Savage, said: "Unlike many people travelling this summer passengers from Coventry Airport can travel with reassurance that their holiday or business trip will not be affected by any baggage handling disputes. As well as offering a good range of destinations at great fares from the region's local airport this is another reason for people to choose to fly from Coventry."
This summer will be the airport's first summer of such a full range of passenger flights and the airport is preparing for the extra passengers it will see when the schools break up for the summer and the start of the peak holiday time.
Kimberley Kay, Director of Communications for Coventry Airport, said: "During the school holiday period alone we anticipate 20,000 people will pass through Coventry Airport to the destinations in France, Spain, Italy and Jersey. As we approach the peak holiday time we are already seeing a change in customer profile and are already seeing more families and multi-generation groups heading off for longer durations than the passengers during the first months of operation. A significant proportion of the travellers are overseas property owners and their friends and family. We have also seen repeat bookings from customers travelling as many as 7 times through the summer months.
"We are already seeing foreign students from Warwick University heading home for their summer study leave and are astounded at the volume of passengers originating overseas, arriving to holiday in the area. The enquiries received both at the airport and by phone and email show that these passengers are keen to visit the area's wealth of attractions.
"We continue to monitor the feedback from our changing customers in order that we can cater for their needs going forwards both in the plans for the permanent terminal facility and the service provided at the airport."
