Environment and Community
Coventry Airport recognises it has a duty of care to the communities affected by its day to day operations. The Airport Company is committed to being a good neighbour and reducing the impact it has on these communities and the environment. The Section 106 Agreement in relation to the Interim Passenger Facility incorporates a number of obligations on the airport to mitigate its effect. The airport takes these obligations very seriously and has introduced a number of measures to ensure it can meet and surpass these requirements.
Noise Management
Aircraft noise can cause considerable disruption to the lives of residents living near to an airport.
Coventry Airport seeks to manage noise pollution by:
1. Adopting a Quiet Operations Policy and a Noise Complaint Procedure
2. Introducing a Noise Monitoring System
3. Implementation of Noise Preferential Routes
4. Introducing a Sound Insulation Grant Scheme
Airport Surface Access Strategy
The Airport wishes to maximise the opportunities for sustainable and inclusive transport access for passengers and staff. The Airport Surface Access Strategy (ASAS) plays an important role in seeking improvements in public transport access to and from the airport and reducing the reliance on the private car. The Airport Travel Plan forms an appendix to the ASAS and sets out the actions and timescales required to achieve the targets laid down in the ASAS.
The use of sustainable transport is being encouraged by:
1. The introduction of the 737 bus between Coventry Airport, Coventry City Centre, Coventry Rail Station and Pool Meadow Bus Station
2. The provision of a daily staff bus service covering key employee clusters.
3. The provision of cycling facilities for passengers and staff
4. Staff car sharing initiatives
5. A signage strategy
Air Quality Programme
A programme for monitoring nitrogen oxides and PM10 has been set up in conjunction with Coventry City Council. To report an Air Quality or odour problem, please use the Air Quality Complaint Form.
Other initiatives outside the Section 106 agreement are also being developed:
- Waste Management Programme
- Re-cycling
-
Energy Efficiency
- Airlines
- Tankering
Coventry Airport aims to meet all environmental legislation and will continue to monitor and where possible further mitigate the impact of the airport on the environment.
